Abstract:
The method of Plasma Desorption Mass Spectrometry is shown to be useful 
to identify samples of characteristic but unknown mixtures of chemical
substances such as used motor oils. The experiments are performed with a
new spectrometer at the University of Oldenburg. Due to the rather complex
spectra an intelligent identification algorithm is necessary and has been
developed. First tests in application to a set of crude oils are presented.
